Brief Description

The department of accounting which was founded in 2000, has involved the board of dean, academic and non academic staff to formulate its vision and mission as the board of trustees validated the univesity vision and mission. Other considerations to formulate the vision and mission relate with the resources of the department of Accounting, among other the human resource, students, facilities and infrastructure, alumni and stake holders.

The challenges associated with the future education played a role in the consideration in formulating the vision and mission. The department has conducted comparative studies related to their educational service to universities in Indonesia and abroad. Company visits have also been conducted to identify specific needs of the stakeholders.

Based on the findings of this research, the head of department and the staff supervised by the vice rector of academic affair formulated the positioning of the Accounting Department of Duta Wacana Christian University to deliver independent and professionals generations demonstrating specific competence in finance that elaborate the applications of information technology. This vision is based on the principle guidelines formulated as the values of the university, namely Obedience to God, Walking in integrity, Striving for excellenceand Service to the world. As the values have been elaborated into code of conducts, an established goal of the department could be then generated.

To be a trustworthy and distinctive department of accounting that applies information technology in learning process that delivers creative, innovative and independent generations to the pluralistic world based on love.

Mission

  1. Providing Accounting education and instruction based on information technology to develop independent and trustworthy  professionals.

  2. Conducting  research in the field of accounting, filled with an entrepreneurial spirit, to develop accounting knowledge and practices, based on information technology.

  3. Developing society through community service activities  filled with entrepreneurial spirit.

  4. Improving  and maintaniing  a learning atmosphere that increases reasoning abilities and sensitivity to the ever-changing pluralistic society as well as to improve autonomous,, creative and innovative behavior.

  5. Developing  an effective and efficient organization and management system supported by information technology and communication.

  6. Development and expansion  to support the department’s autonomy.

     

Graduate Competence and Career Prospect

Graduates of the Accounting Department are expected to be able to identify and propose solutions for Accounting problems by applying theoretical, practical approaches and arguments that continuously adapt to various global developments of the discipline. The graduates would also demonstrate excellent softskill and responsibility in solving, directing, organizing, and running business in response to the fast changing and developing situations (technology, society’s mindset, social life, political and economical dynamics). These qualifications are supposedly framed in strong characters and leadership as well as being open minded to fast development and changes in technology, social life, politics, and economics (being an agent of change). Furthermore, the graduates should also be characterized of being able to formulate and apply accounting values that are relevant to social needs (life long learning). Being able to anticipate the society’s need and being open minded to new ideas by adapting and applying their expertise would be the other outstanding qualifications (innovative).  As the graduates of the Accounting Department should demonstrate softskill and hardskill excellence, the formulating competence (as in the Standard Competency Document, QADW-2221-SP-09.07.001) are as follows:

  1. Knowledge and Understanding.

  2. Intelectual skill.

  3. Practical skill.

  4. Managerial skill and attitude.

The Department of Accounting divides the graduate competence into three main categories: upholding, and supplementary. This method is in accordance with the formulated definitions as stated in the decree from the National Minister of Education.

Ensuring the quality of each graduate, the Department of Accounting establishes settled graduates’ competence assurance in accordance with the demand of job market and elaboration of stakeholder network (graduate users, practitioners, corporate, and allumny). The  established quality assurance is formulated by standardizing the curricullum, the graduates’ specification, and competence  in respect to the demand of the graduates’ users.

The evidence of the students’ competence could also be infered from the results of their assignments such as the ones in the Project of Accounting Computerized Programming for small scale business, enterprise performance evaluation,  both models of students’ entrepreneurship. In terms of its academic products, lots of classroom materials including labwork and training modules, written summaries of lectures, and lecturing modules of the Accounting Department have been written by the academic staff.

In response to the growing needs of future enterpise and industry, the accounting department of Duta Wacana Christian University offers three majors, namely:

  1. Financial Accounting.

  2. Managerial Accounting.

  3. Auditing.
