A team of lecturers from the Faculty of Biotechnology of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta coordinated by Dra. Aniek Prasetyaningsih, M.Si, conducted a program called BioCharity program as part of solidarity act from lecturers, staff, and students to facilitate high demand on hand sanitizer, mask, and other necessities such as milk and vitamin during the time of COVID-19 pandemic.

The team members of BioCharity are Djoko Rahardjo, Kukuh Madyaningrana, Vinsa Cantya Prakasita, Dwi Adityarini, Catarina Aprilia Ariestanti, Wida Hening Sukma C, Riyan Perdanasari, Ariadne Digna N, Retno, and Setyohadi. The BioCharity team has produced more than 150 liters of hand sanitizer at UKDW Biotechnology laboratory and distribute it to lecturers, staff, students of the Faculty of Biotechnology as well as becak (pedicab) drivers, online motorcycle taxi drivers, and several mosques and churches.

According to Djoko Rahardjo, this event is one of the Faculty of Biotechnology’s contributions to tackle the spread of COVID-19 disease.

“As the manpower and fund are limited while demand for hand sanitizer is increasing, the BioCharity team expands its scope by synergizing with “UKDW Peduli” program to increase the capacity and expand the service outreach to the community,” he added. (DR/translated by drr)
