A team consisting of three students of Information Systems Department of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (SI UKDW) successfully won the 2nd place in the Edutainer Nusantara Fair (ENF) 2020 that was held by BEM KM MIPA of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman Purwokerto.

Beni Mulia Tabarus (leader), Nikolaus Aryawan Ravato Wijaya (member) dan Didimus Candra Gased (member) submitted the proposal, which was in the Business Plan category, to Edutainer Nusantara Fair (ENF) 2020 committee last February.

The proposal introduced HALOPET, an android based application for pet care services.

Drs. Jong Jek Siang, M.Sc., the head of the Information System Department of UKDW, who also became the team’s advisor, explained that this business plan competition was competed by 60 teams from universities all around Indonesia, each consisted of three students.

“In the preliminary round in February – March, participants submitted their business plan summary. Then, the teams that passed the preliminary round sent the full proposal, including the business plan. The selection process was slightly pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, the result was only out on June 6, 2020. Previously, each team was required to present their proposal in front of the jury. However, because of the pandemic, they were asked to make a 15-minute video that would be examined by the jury. In early July, we got the announcement that the UKDW team successfully won the 2nd place,” he said.

Further, he explained that the HALOPET application was the result of observation from these three students. Many pet owners find problems when they are traveling for a long time and have to leave their pets as the cost of leaving their pets in the care of a veterinary clinic is quite expensive. On the other hand, many pet-lover students have the ability and time to take care of pets.

“They make an application called Halopet that provide a way for pet owner and carer to meet. It is a similar method as in online ride-hailing service. Pet owners can leave their pets in the care of a pet lover at a more affordable cost. Meanwhile, pet-lover students can get extra pocket money. This app has filter function based on location, animals, and the time that enables pet lovers to search and filter the information before taking the jobs. The application administrator will also get some profit that will be calculated from the price paid by pet owners,” he concluded. (Source: FTI/Jong Jek Siang)
